050: Best Advice for Aspiring Goalkeepers
For our 50th episode, we brought back 13 of our previous guests – coaches who are teaching and training at the elite youth, college, professional and international levels. We asked them all one question: What’s the best advice you can offer to an aspiring goalkeeper?
These top coaches were generous with their insight, offering advice that’s relevant to kids just starting the position all the way to elite keepers trying to reach a bigger stage. The focuses ranged from technique to tactics to the overall approach, and the coaches emphasized courage, commitment, resilience, a love of the position, and more than a few tricks along the way.
The following coaches were kind enough to offer their time and insight for this episode (listed in order of appearance):
- George Kostelis, Hartford Athletic
- Clifton Bush, UNC Asheville Bulldogs (W)
- Ross Ballantyne, Savehands Goalkeeping Academy
- Jillian Loyden, The Keeper Institute
- Zac Ludwig, Switching the Field
- Anton Trifonovs, Kronis Goalkeeping
- Gary Curneen, Modern Soccer Coach
- Lisa Cole, United Soccer Coaches
- Lane Davis, Duke Blue Devils (W)
- Abdel Rodriguez, Kronis Goalkeeping
- Paul Blodgett, Paul Blodgett Goalkeeper Training School
- Colin Stewart, Rangers FC
- Brian Simmons, TIP Goalkeeping
Special thanks to all 13 of these fantastic coaches for joining me! If you’d like to hear from 13 more coaches (representing our first 25 episodes), you can find their advice in Episode 25.
