048-049: Video Analysis with Lane Davis
Among his many duties on the Duke Blue Devils women’s soccer staff, Lane Davis trains the goalkeepers and analyzes video. For the next two episodes, he brings those elements together, explaining his process and identifying the key indicators that he tracks.
In Part I of the interview, Lane examines the purpose of video analysis, and what you should be using it for. He also explains some of the specific information that he tracks for the Blue Devils, and takes a close, specific look at how he tracks crossing information and then utilizes it on the training field.
In Part II (available below), we discuss methods for implementing video with any team that has access to a camera. Lane talks about processes and strategies that have served him well, and good ways to get started.
Along the way, Lane also addresses the evolving demands being placed on college goalkeepers, the struggle to keep more than one goalie happy, and other roles that substitute keepers can fill, to stay engaged and valuable to the team.
Special thanks to Lane Davis for joining me!
