074: Shantel Hutton of the Texas A&M Aggies
There were plenty of people who told Shantel Hutton that she would never be able to cut it at the elite college level. But just three weeks into her Texas A&M career, she’s undefeated in six games, already a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, and riding a shutout streak that’s almost nine hours long.
On today’s episode, Shantel talks about all of the setbacks and successes that propelled her from youth soccer in Atlanta, Georgia, to College Station and among the Southeastern Conference elite.
She discusses a youth career that rarely involved time in the goal — and a high school career that never did. She explains how her love for the more attacking positions helped develop foot skills and a soccer IQ that now serve her very well in the net.
Shantel also talks about the importance — and the difficulty — of establishing good communication with your teammates, especially for a Freshman goalkeeper.
It’s a fun episode, full of insight and advice from one of college soccer’s most promising young keepers. I hope you enjoy it!
Special thanks to Shantel Hutton for joining me!
