046: Initiating Communication with Zac Ludwig

Sometimes, the hardest part of goalkeeper communication is just getting started. In today’s episode, Zac Ludwig of Switching the Field discusses strategies to help keepers understand what they’re trying to accomplish with communication, overcome their fears, and begin to implement it.

With experience coaching all positions and at a variety of different levels (from youth to semi-pro), as well as the Advanced National Goalkeeping diploma, Zac brings his expertise to bear on an important topic.

Beginning with a recognition of the purpose of communication, Zac addresses the importance of understanding the game and the positions in front of you. He also talks about ways to incorporate drills and training exercises that emphasize decision-making, and eventually progressing from communication to organization.

Among his many insights, Zac discusses a progression of activities that he worked through with a quiet ODP goalkeeper, eventually breaking the ice and making positive progress.
