083: Elizabeth DeMarse of the Greenwood Lady Gators
When Elizabeth DeMarse walked off the field on November 2nd, she had represented the Greenwood High School Lady Gators varsity soccer team in 108 contests totaling over 7500 minutes. None of those minutes ever felt longer – or proved more exhilarating – than the final nine, to close out a Kentucky high school state championship.
On today’s episode, Elizabeth discusses her standout career with the Lady Gators, starting with two years on JV and then four starting for the varsity. From pivotal shootout wins over dominant local rivals as a freshman, to a senior all-tournament performance in the state final, she describes her personal journey and the collective effort of a dedicated team.
Along the way, she paints a vivid picture of the joy and camaraderie that are the hallmark of high school soccer – and high school athletics, in general – in the U.S. At a time when many promising young players are pressured not to play for their schools, what are they missing out on?
It’s a fun episode, featuring a wonderful young woman, and produced by a very proud dad. I hope you enjoy it!
Special thanks to Elizabeth DeMarse for joining me!
