082: Chris Hubbard of Louisville City FC
When Chris Hubbard defends the goal at Slugger Field for Louisville City FC, he does so just five miles away from the Seneca Park fields of his youth and the Marshall Stadium pitch that helped put him on the map. Outside of a five-year collegiate career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Chris has defended goals exclusively for Louisville, and looks to bring a third consecutive USL Cup back to the Derby City this season.
On today’s episode, Chris talks about playing for his hometown – from his youth experience with United 1996 to his high school career with the Trinity Shamrocks, and now as a professional with Louisville City. He also discusses his college days at Notre Dame, and some of the coaches who helped refine his game, including Orlando City’s Thabane Sutu.
He talks about the biggest differences he’s encountered at each level of the game, the importance of developing even when you’re not getting consistent minutes, and an injury that almost derailed his pro career before it could ever really get started.
It’s a compelling episode, full of insight from one of the USL’s promising young keepers. I hope you enjoy it!
Special thanks to Chris Hubbard for joining me!
