068: Casey Murphy of Reign FC
After spending most of her first 20 years defending goals near her hometown of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Casey Murphy has emerged as an international force, representing the U.S. Under-20s in Papua New Guinea, featuring for Montpellier HSC in the French top tier, and now starting in goal for Seattle’s Reign FC in the NWSL.
In today’s episode, Casey talks about each of those stops, and the important lessons she learned on her way to a standout professional – and promising international – career.
From her time on the youth training fields of the Players Development Academy to her collegiate success with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Casey discusses the importance of cross-training, communication and stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Casey also talks about the challenges – and rewards – that came with her two seasons in France. Despite being the only player on the roster whose first language was English, she went from success to success, competing in the Coupe de France and the UEFA Champions League, and earning the Best Keeper Award in the Division 1 Féminine.
As always, it’s an episode full of insight and advice, this time from one of America’s top young goalkeepers. I hope you enjoy it!
