042: Evan Newton of the Indy Eleven
In 2018, Evan Newton was awarded the USL’s Golden Glove as the top goalkeeper in the league. Despite this achievement, it was a year of ups and downs, and Evan has moved on to the Indy Eleven for 2019. He discusses the important role that both success and frustration can play in the development and maturity of a goalkeeper, and the best ways to handle both.
In today’s episode, Evan talks through a USL journey that has taken him to Tampa, Arizona, Oklahoma, Sacramento, Cincinnati and now Indianapolis. He also explains the role that his youth soccer in Virginia and some big seasons with the Old Dominion Monarchs played in getting him to the level he is today.
Among other topics, Evan tackles the hard subject of playing time. When you’re not seeing the field as often as you like – or even as often as you deserve – what are positive ways you can face the situation, to make sure it doesn’t detract from your growth. We also talk about developing work ethic and some hints for facing PKs. I hope you enjoy the show!
Special thanks to Evan Newton for joining me!
