037: Caroline Jeffers of the Florida State Seminoles
Two years ago – or even two months ago – Caroline Jeffers could not have imagined the heights that she would reach in the 2018 College Cup. Of course, the Florida State Seminoles were targeting a national championship, as they do every season. But Caroline was content to back up and assist goalkeeping prodigy, Brooke Bollinger. All of that changed on November 4th.
In today’s episode, Caroline talks about the incredible ending to the 2018 season. When Brooke suffered an injury in the ACC title game, Caroline was thrust into the spotlight and responded in a way that few could’ve imagined. After scratching out a gritty win in that conference championship, Caroline would concede only two goals across six NCAA tournament games. She kept four clean sheets, including wins over UNC, Penn State and Stanford, and won a shootout against USC.
In addition to describing those tournament games, Caroline discusses her development as a youth player and her first two college years at East Carolina. She also talks about the importance of a good goalkeeping coach, and the danger of choosing a college based only on the coaches. I hope you enjoy the show!
