021: Building Goalkeeper Sessions with Evan Prybutok
Many committed goalkeepers – and many well-intentioned coaches – fail to get the most out of our their training sessions due to poor planning. In today’s episode, Evan Prybutok, assistant coach of the LaSalle Explorers, talks about how to do it right.
After a playing career that culminated at the Division I level at UMass, Evan has served as head coach, assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for clubs, development academies and universities ranging from New Jersey to Colorado.
Evan discusses the three phases of a proper training session, the purpose of each, and how to plan and run them efficiently. He even provides one of his own training sessions (below) as an example of the phases and principles that we discuss. And if you’d like a visual presentation of the drills in that training session, they can be seen here, demonstrated by Evan and several of his keepers from the Players Development Academy. Examined together, it’s a great three-part (discussion/session/video) look at proper goalkeeper training.
Along the way, Evan also discusses his current squad of Explorer goalkeepers, his coaching background, and the potential of the undersized keeper. It’s a dense 30 minutes, and there’s even more in the Outtakes segment below. I hope you enjoy it!
Special thanks to Evan Prybutok for joining me!
