016: The Goalkeeper-Coach Relationship with Stephan Rigaud
From the city pitches of Queens to the academy training grounds of Madrid and Strasbourg, Stephan Rigaud has developed his coaching philosophy on a global stage and applied it locally and regionally in the northeastern United States, most recently with the goalkeepers of Blau Weiss Gottschee. In today’s episode, he shares his experience.
Stephan is dedicated to the relationship between a goalkeeper and a goalkeeping coach. He explains why it’s important and details various strategies for enhancing it. A proper coach/goalkeeper bond can produce a confidence that comes with trust and experience, as well as gameday coaching efficiency. He also explains how to know if you’re getting it right.
Stephan also talks about his playing career and his travels to European academies, exploring different systems and approaches to the game and the goalkeeping position. He addresses the key mental traits that he looks for in his keepers, as well as training tactics to help develop them. I hope you enjoy the show!
