013: Game-Realistic Training with Chris Sharpe

No one is more involved in goalkeeping in the state of Colorado than today’s guest, Chris Sharpe. Chris is the first-team Goalkeeping Coach for the Colorado Rapids and the owner and founder of the Core Goalkeeping Academy. And that’s just the beginning.

In today’s episode, Chris talks about a professional career that spanned three continents as well as a coaching career that now covers every age and skill level in the state of Colorado. When he’s not coaching Tim Howard and Zac MacMath, Chris is training and designing curriculum for the Rapids Development Academy and the Rapids Youth Soccer Club.

Chris discusses the challenges of creating game-realistic training sessions, even when you don’t have 20 players in and around the 18. He outlines his approach to creating controlled chaos in the box, and specific drills that simulate real game situations and decision-making.
