010: Josh Cohen of the Sacramento Republic
After stamping his name on the NCAA record books while defending the goal at UC San Diego, Josh Cohen has moved north to help make the Sacramento Republic a force to be reckoned with in the USL. In today’s episode, he talks about his journey, as well as the keys to building confidence in a goalkeeper and understanding among a defensive core.
Josh discusses his development in Northern California, where he starred for the local Santa Clara Sporting Club before making the trip south for collegiate soccer in San Diego. After college, he played a season in the Premier Development League before starting his pro career in the USL.
During the interview, Josh talks about an eye-opening summer he spent, as a teenager, playing soccer in Brazil. The contrast in cultures, styles and hunger for success all made a lasting impression.
